Life can get so busy. Sometimes it feels like it’s getting away from you. EBRC offers a simple way to reconnect – running with others in your community.
It sets you up positively for the day.
Our dream is to help communities across New Zealand feel the benefits of running together, making us all happier and stronger individuals.
EBRC was born from a passion to improve mental and physical health. We use the power of human connection to make positive changes to our lives. That's why we're proud to support the
Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, raising money and awareness of their work via our events.

Physical activity plays a critical part in maintaining good mental health, combined with the social element that EBRC offers, I’d encourage people to join in on the fun. We’d love to see these run clubs expanded throughout Aotearoa so more people, whatever their ability, can access a fun way to improve their wellbeing, both physically and mentally.
This might seem stupid early but we’ve found it really works, giving you the best possible start to the day and removing potential life barriers that get in the way later on.
On top of this, there's all the key science from the boffins. Read on to learn more!
Running in the morning helps to boost melatonin levels in your body, something that's essential for a better quality of sleep. Getting a good night’s sleep has been shown to be vital in helping to maintain good mental health.
Running release various key endorphins – ‘happy chemicals’ – which create feelings of happiness and euphoria. It also reduces the stress hormone cortisol. This is a key factor in maintaining good mental health and reducing anxiety.
Running stimulates your metabolism, helping you burn calories, and can even help suppress your appetite after you run. The effects on metabolism have been shown to be especially beneficial first thing in the morning.
Running floods your body with hormones like norepinephrine and dopamine, helping reduce the stress hormone cortisol, giving you a more positive mood. It can also create new brain cells and improve overall brain performance.
Running is great for so many parts of your body, from the heart to the brain and the immune system. It restores elasticity to arteries, making them behave younger, aids brain function and helps boost the immune system.
Improving fitness has been shown to boost self-esteem and positive self-image. Regardless of who you are, exercise can quickly elevate our perception of self-worth – it helps you feel happy within yourself.
We always say a big hello to new members. It's important that people feel welcome so keep an eye out for new faces and welcome them.
We take a group photo before each run for our social media – this helps encourage new members and reminds others what they're missing!
We take extra care at road crossings and look out for each other – routes can have several crossings. Always stop and check where necessary.
This is our most important rule and really makes people feel welcome. We want everyone to feel safe and welcome, so keep an eye out for each other!
We get that some people need to rush off to work, but if not please stick around to welcome in others behind you – it makes everyone feel good.
We run in ALL weathers so dress appropriately! On dark mornings this may include head torches and reflective gear, depending on the route.
Our vision is to establish Early Bird Run Crews in the heart of communities all across New Zealand.
We believe that running together is a great way to connect with others in your community while encouraging a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Want to join us on this journey? Both you and your community will benefit hugely – we promise you won't regret it! Lace up your running shoes and let's get started!
